Plans for an 80-bedroom hotel in the city centre have been given the go ahead by Kingston upon Hull City Council.
The £5m joint development by the Wykeland Group and Realis Estates, of Birmingham, will eventually see the hotel, which will be operated by budget chain Travelodge, creating 26 new jobs.
It is earmarked for a site currently used as a car park and will include a bar and restaurant as well as parking spaces for 29 cars.
Wykeland has been working with Travelodge and Hull City Council to bring this development forward for the past couple of years and including a substantial pre-application consultation, and is hoping to be on site by the end of the year.
Councillor Pat Ellis commented "I think the contemporary design is great; it's a gateway position at the top of Ferensway and it's a good opportunity to see a mix of architecture in the area". Councillor Rick Welton also commented that the hotel had the added benefit of blocking views of the multi-storey car park next to the site.
